CCNetwork Holds Writing Workshop, Grooms Youth for Winning Essay Entries.

Care and Compassion Network, a registered charity organization based in Nigeria, has concluded the 2nd edition of her writing workshop on 28 January 2021.

The 2-day online workshop had two award-winning essayists teach ninety-one (91) youth the nitty-gritty of entering and winning an essay contest.

The founder and CEO of the organization, Engr. Waliyulah Olayiwola, in his words said: “our love for God and compassion for humanity has made us at CCNetwork to organize a free online training on essay writing for the Nigerian youth. Recall that we held the first edition in 2020 attended by more than six hundred people throughout Nigeria, Ghana and Kenya. It’s our own way of empowering the youth with useful vocational skills.”

He added that the training was a golden opportunity for youths to learn under the tutelage of award winning essayists, provided that they are open-minded to absorb every tip the facilitators transmit to them.

He, however, hinted that one of the ways to win essays is to learn from people that have won the prizes in the past.

The first speaker, Barr. Abdulazeez Muhammad-Basheer, noted that the aim of every writer is to connect with their audience.

He, therefore, encouraged the participants to pay adequate attention to the ‘wow factor’ which he described as the portion of the essay where points are awarded for exceptional essays that display incredible use of vocabulary, clever idea, mature style and logical arrangement of facts or argument.

In his own presentation, Mr. Abdulhakeem explained that writing is an art and a science and a writer needs to follow these two aspects, in order to write a unique essay.

He also urged the participants to ward off the fear of word count when writing. He noted that “it is better to write so much that you have to cut the length of your write-up than write so little that it is not enough.”

Mr. Ayub, a participant in the workshop, expressed his delight over the program, confessing that he has really gained a lot from the two facilitators.

Similarly, Ms. Hameedat described the workshop as being wonderful, thus appreciating the organiser for giving her the opportunity to learn from renowned writers.

Her remark was seconded by Ms. Azeezat who considered herself privileged to be part of the training. “It is simple and straight forward” she added.

Another participant, Mr. Lanre, remarked that the workshop was really an eye-opener, adding that it was well explained and detailed. He, therefore, thanked the facilitators for giving them that much.

The workshop ended with voluntary donations by some of the participants, who chose to contribute to charity and helping people in need, which is what the organization stands for.

Great indeed. I wish we can have more organizations like this in Nigeria; an organization that sees beyond socio-economic needs of people but also pays attention to the need to brace their intellectual vibrancy.
